Distributing wealth, uniting society?

On 23 September 2025, WESOREL member Nhat An Trinh contributed to the special session „Distributing wealth, uniting society? A discussion on wealth inequality and social cohesion“ at the 42nd Congress of the German Sociological Association (DGS) in Duisburg. The session was convened by Diana Lengersdorf (Bielefeld) and WESOREL principal investigator Fabian Pfeffer (Munich), and it brought together researchers working on the question of whether and how wealth inequality shapes social cohesion.

The format examined inequality and cohesion from several angles: from the perspective of elites as well as the wider population, within partnerships as well as in international comparison. The speakers presented recent research results and discussed not only what these findings say about society, but also the potentials and challenges of targeted interventions in the distribution of wealth. Alongside Nhat An Trinh, the discussion featured Olaf Groh-Samberg (Bremen), Kathrin Leuze (Jena), Sylka Scholz (Jena), and Isabell Stamm (Berlin).
